Re: Audi Concert Bose question (non-quattro)
Jouko -
Actually, the head units are the same for Bose or non-Bose factory stereo's. I
confirmed this when I was searching for CD player options. The Bose system just
has the extra amps and speakers in the car, and a 'BOSE' display when the radio
is turned on. So you should be able to use the Concert with regular speakers.
You can't use other speakers with the Bose amps or vice-versa, because that's
what Dr. Bose's wacky deal is all about, doing weird matching of amp
equalization to speaker.
While I'm on the topic, the Bose system almost pierced my eardrum yesterday.
Playing an Albert King CD with his screeching guitar style, the solo would hit a
harmonic or sympathetic vibration or other bizarre acoustic phenomena that huw
could tell us about that would bring the note out in excessive volume. Ouch.
Of course it was out of the question to turn it down... The Bose system is
tempermental this way - from time to time it seems to hit frequencies and
waveforms that either work great and have really good presence and stereo
imaging, or make the thing sound lousy.
