Subject: Dash lights? replacement and sources?

I have a late model 91 20v 200. Car doesn't appear to have a check
engine light and I'm not sure if the car doesn't have one or if the
bulb is burned out.
I'm still trying to decipher the Bentley manuals right now, but it
appears that the steering wheel has to be removed in order to get to
the instrument lights.
Can anyone tell me:
1 - where to get replacement lights in the North East (US)?
2 - Are late model 91 200TQs supposed to have the check engine light?

Congrats on a nice car. You can get dash bulbs from the dealer...for
instance, Clair Audi in Boston (Clair Parts Express, ask for Mack or Barry,
and mention the quattro internet list; they do mail order too); not sure about
exact replacements aftermarket, as I have not BTDT. You could also steal the
light from the "fasten belts" warning, and not worry too much.
Generally, the '91 200q20v does not have the check engine light installed;
there supposedly was an undocumented recall in which the dealer would remove
the check engine light, because too many owners would come in every time it
lit up or flashed (must be a problem!).
My site lists a lot of info on the '91 200q20v, and Scott Mockry's site also
lists repair and troubleshooting info.

You can pull error codes using a wire jumper and test light (procedure on both
pages). Before you pull the steering wheel off, make sure you follow the
procedure in the Bentley manual to disable the airbag! Very important. You
may be able to replace the bulb without pulling the steering wheel, but make
sure you use tape to protect the wood on the dash from damage.
There is a sublist for '91 200q20v owners (much less traffic than the quattro
list). Details on subscription are posted on my "links" page.
