New to the list
Hi,
I'm new to the list and hail from Sunny (sic) Scotland, to be more
precise Stirling.
I don't currently own any Audis, although I hope to change that soon,
but I do have two VWs, both of which have engines from Audi 80s. I'm
looking for info on the newer of the two, a 2.0L FI unit from a '92 80E,
code AAD. I believe the setup was originally K-E jetronic but I am
running standard K-jet in an '85 Scirocco. The intake manifold is the
original audi and the TB & warm-up regulator are off a 5cyl 2.2 (I
think) audi 100. The rest of the fuel system (injectors, fuel meter
etc) is the original VW.
My first problem is that I can't find any info on the original audi
setup as I don't have access to workshop manuals and there are no Haynes
manuals that I know of covering that model. In particular, I don't know
if this engine would have originally had knock-sensors and whether is is
feasible to run it long-term without them - is it a high compression
ratio engine?
The most irritating problem is lack of top-end power - top speed is
lower than with the original 1.8 8v engine - but lower to mid is better
than the 1.8. I don't know if the problem is lack of fuel or something
else. At first I thought it was the TB / warm-up, which was from the
original 1.8 to start with, hence the audi replacements, but they didn't
give any noticeable improvement. Would it be worth putting extra shims
in the fuel meter to increase the basic pressure?
Any info/advice on these would be greatly appreciated.
TIA,
Ewan Hopkins.
