I took it for granted, (maybe a mistake!) that you will test the pump first
for "buzzing", all you have to do is shorten the thermo switch (with the car
off!), there should not be any need to mess with the relay.

Removing the 1st stage radiator relay (the top-right one in the relay
panel under the hood) makes it a little easier to tell if the pump runs
when the thermoswitch is shorted, since the pump and fan are switched on
together. I would first try this before disconnecting the plumbing; you
may find that your pump doesn't even turn anymore, because the shaft has
seized. This may have in turn caused the relay to fail (easy to fix if
you find that's the problem). At least that's what happened in my case.
