Faulty thermostat

Hi all,

The thermostat of my '87 4kcsq does not close all the way.  The symptoms
are slower warm up, quick cool off (for ex. when I take the car off gear
going downhill: it is not supposed to fall by a notch over a period of 30
sec., is it?).  Otherwise the car works fine but I'd like to take care of
that.

Question:  can someone outline the procedure for me, anything to be aware
of, how long it takes a guy with a below average practical experience (yet
I did change the bushings by myself!). Do I have to look for sth "while I
am there".  Do I need to drain the coolant, is it Pentosinish?  (I was
never able to completely comprehend the Pentosin discussion).

I have a Bentley for my car, but would appreciate any kind of kind help I
can get from ya'll.
