Back luck, bad timing weekend...but some ideas/questions..
Hi!
What a badly timed weekend I had. Last Thursday a friend
tells me he drove down main road and spotted an odd looking
Audi. Checked it out and it is a 1990 Audi 90 (or 80?)
Coupe (like the S2), anthracite colour, left hand drive,
2.3 litre 10-valve motor, excellent interior, cleanest
engine bay ever, only 70,000km (since 1990!!!) and going
for $11,300 (very cheap here for such a rare car). Went
to test drive and it is sold. Aaargh!!
A friend is looking for a Nissan Silvia 200sx from 1993
onwards and I spotted another one somewhere. We checked it
out on Saturday and I was in complete shock to see a 1990
Audi V8 in the same parking lot. Pearl colour, LHD, auto,
quattro, electric everything, import from Canada
(apparently). Price was $13,700 with 145000km on it.
Stongard equipped as well. This is the same one I've heard
about selling around Cape Town. Guess what? Sold! Aaargh!!
No luck. I was prepared to trade in immediately on either
one of these machines. Oh well... that's my luck.
I envy you guys who have the V8 or the Coupe. They're
fine machines!
Good part to the weekend: looking in the Coupe's engine
bay I noticed 2 things (1) valve cover, (2) 2nd-ary h2o
pump. There were discussions about different, better
lookin valve covers for the 5k and 200 to replace the
not-so-attractive stock unit. On the 2.3 that has that
"over the valve cover" manifold the cover is kind of
clipped on the one side and looks better. Would that go
onto the MC motor? I think it would, definitely looks
better. Cheaper than finding a flashy aluminium (or
other) cover. As for the h2o pump, at the front of the
manifold on the 2.3 5-cylinder there is this small
all-aluminium looking thing that seems to be a pump
with inlet and outlet hoses. I think this is a similar
device to the afterrun coolant pump on the 200. Am I
right? How much for it? Looks a lot stronger than the
Bosch units on the 200, doesn't look like a plastic
thing.
Nice cars. *sniff*
Sorry for WOB.
G.
PS: non-Audi related question: any opinions on the Nissan
200sx Silvia from 1993- (the one with pop-up headlamps)?
