Seduced by an Italian (Audi Content, but not important)
Fellow Auto Unionists,
I just had my first experience with an Italian car. I test drove a `81
Alfa Romeo GTV6. OH MY GOD!!! It was't just the added horsepower of the
V6, (I've only owned I5's in CGT's), but the whole driving experience.
The sound of the exhaust, the driving position, the feel, etc. For about
five minutes I was REALLY tempted. Tempeted mainly by the fact that my
insurance agency rates the Alfa lower than my past Audi, (by like
$50/month), the parts availability and price are roughly the same, and
the lot was selling it for only $2,000. And the ability to say, "Why,
yes, I do own an Italian sportscar!" But some realities set in quick:
The car had a salvage title (OUCH!), it needed a lot of work, the stacks
of Audi parts I have laying around my apartment that I don't want to go
to waste, (or to all you vultures out there! Just kidding!), and my
undying and unwavering loyalty to Audi. But if I were to defect, that
might be the car that makes me into a Benedict Arnold! Fortunately, I
also have a `85 4ksq lined up to buy, and I know it's clean. So I
haven't left the ranks just yet. [8^)
Love, Like, or Just Plain Tolerate,
Timothy
