RE: Euro Light Harness

I tried to send this yesterday, but Dan nuked it (rightfully so) 'cause I
included HTML junk with my post. My apologies... my new mail client "reset"
some of my options. Anyway, I already sent this to Wolf, but maybe someone
will find it of use.

Hey Wolf -- the best Euro install page I've seen (and I've checked them all)
is Scott Mockry's. It used to be lumped in with his electrical section, but
now it has it's own page: http://www.teleport.com/~scottmo/eurolght.html).
I've heard all sorts of ways to bypass the autocheck -- the easiest (IMHO)
is Scott's:

 >>The existing low and high beam wiring (yellow and white wires) should be
connected to control the relays.
 >>The "Lamp Control Unit - Front" will need to be removed temporarily and
the "9" connector wire (Gray wire)
 >>disconnected from behind the unit connector or the "K" terminal cut off
this "Lamp Control Unit" and then
 >>re-install the Lamp Control Unit to eliminate the Headlamp Warning
signal.

I actually was even more slacker. Instead of "cutting off " terminal "K" I
just bent it over. I wasn't sure it would work, but a month+ later, no
problems. If I ever decide to uninstall the euros, I can just bend the
terminal back and be done with it (note, you can probably only do this cycle
once).

Some of the other stuff you want is gleaned from a variety of sites and
mails (for example, peterhe, I think):

-- 2 rubber boots for Euro connectors (PN 447941189, $3.23/side) -- cheaper
and fit better than the home depot alternative quoted
-- 2 plastic connector holders (PN 447972957, $6/side)
-- 8 spade connectors (PN N-0170851-4, $1.50/per!!!) Apparently you can get
these cheaper from Auto Electric supply houses. Ask for the European
equivalent of 1/4" terminals. (I actually got mine from a kind lister...
thanks Mark Chang!)

I made my own harness using digi-key (http://www.digi-key.com) relays and
fuse blocks. For what it's worth, I used three (one for each high circuit,
one for the lows) 40A relays (with bracket;Digi-key #PB227-ND),
corresponding connector: (PB316-ND), and an assortment of terminals for the
connectors (PB317-ND 12-16awg; and PB318-ND 14-18AWG), and in-line fuse
holders (F1087-ND). Finally, they have a really cheap but complete
shrink-wrap tubing kit: STA-KIT-ND. It's like 5' ea. of six sizes of
tubing).

Some other good headlight pages:
(http://members.aol.com/c1j1miller/index.html) (Chris Miller's page)
(http://lighting.mbz.org/tech/how_to/relays/ Daniel Stern Lighting -- also
see the link for good aiming info.
(http://www.mindspring.com/~audidudi/HTML/Eurolights.htm) Audi-Dudis page.
Probably the best-looking lighting page around ;-)

Good Luck.

PS -- If you are thinking about putting in brighter bulbs, just do it now
before you install the lights. There's no _way_ I can get my hand in there
to change the H-4s, and there's _no_ way I'm going to pull the lights any
time soon, so it's stockers for me for a while.
