Oil pan defect??[used to be: Audi]
Hi Kerry,
I have no experience dealing with AoA, but if she is unaware of what she
hit (ie not a big enough event to remember specifics) then I would say
it is time to force the dealer into action.
I was slightly misled (partly my fault for not checking) as to the exact
equipment on my 99 A6. After voicing my complaints to the dealer
(Carousel Audi, Mpls, MN) they responded with what I considered to be
fair compensation for the error. So Kudos to Carousel for being a
concerned Audi dealer. I would hope that if I approached them with a
damaged component resulting from day to day resonable driving that they
would either foot the bill or assist me in dealing with AoA.
Say, for instance, that I was driving on the freeway and had to lay on
the brakes. If the whole brake system exploded that would not be my
fault as my action was reasonable. Or if I was operating a window and
then decided to roll it back up. If it fails that is not my fault, but
design or component error. The same seems to be true of her oil pan.
Unless there are visible marks of misuse then I would say it is a defect
and should be replaced by the manufacturer. To prove it was not misuse,
however, would seem to be her burden; to do that she will need the
damaged oil pan. Well just my 0.02¢. Good Luck! Please keep the list
informed as to how this turns out. Thanks!
Kris

I am so sad and now short several hundred dollars for it is not covered by warranty.. The manager said this was not uncommon... I see this as a design flaw and/or I am not a very good driver. I suspect I went over an ice bank to do this; however, does this not seem to be a design flaw to you?? Thanks for just listening. Cindy
