Ya lost me.  Headlight color has nothing to do with night vision.  By 'night
vision' I'm talking about your eyes' physiological acclimation to low light
levels.  Dilated pupils, etc.  Headlights are for illumination of dark
objects, but have little to do with preservation of night vision.  It's true
that if you shut your headlights off and waited long enough, your eyes would
adjust to whatever light was available, but given the human eye has pretty
poor low light ability, you'd be best not to try it.  The point being that
you don't want to add INTERNAL lighting in you vehicle that makes your night
vision any worse than it is already.  Hence it's illegal in many states to
drive with your dome light on.  If white light was good for night vision,
oncoming headlights wouldn't hurt your eyes and leave spots in your vision.
Bottom line - shorter the wavelength, the less detrimental to night vision.
Red is best, Orange is second, Greenish third...
