Re: too old ???

that's about $14,000. At the very end of 1987 the MB engine became
available - around GBP10,000 for a good early one.
A Coupe quattro (no turbo) costs about a third of that. Other Audi
quattros (such as 200TQs) are generally much cheaper - as low as $3000.
Beware of its condition - parts are _VERY_ expensive. I have seen very
old ur-quattros (1981) sold at GBP1500 ($2400) because they needed
$8000 in parts and labour costs.

1985-1987 4000S and CS quattros sell over here pretty commonly for 1200-2000
dollars. Again, though, as Phil pointed out, the less you pay, the more the
car needs in one way or another. 4000Q's can be pretty pricey to keep up,
too. Remember, in the US almost everything on the 4000Q was 4000Q only (since
the TQC was no longer imported after 86). IE rear suspension, rear brakes,
tie rods, exhaust, driveshafts...
Good luck, I purchaced my 4000CSQ for 2500$ about 4 years ago. What a great
car, after I dumped 4K$ into it..
