Leather Seat Patching(was 4kcsq Leather Seats)
Depending on your budget, your other options include going to a local car
upholstery shop and getting a restoration estimate, or doing it yourself
with material cut from an old leather coat (Salvation Army/Thrift store,
$10) and a big bottle of instant glue ($5 at a hobby shop.) Total cost
about $15. I have done two of my former cars this way and the repair
improved my life while the cars lasted (3 more years.) Cut the patch to
allow about an inch of overlap beyond the split, and work the patch in
UNDER the original material so as to keep as much original color showing as
possible. Then flow the instant glue into the joint with the pointy end of
the glue tube nozzle, and spread it around with a toothpick or popsicle
stick. Use some paper toweling to sop up the excess, and hold the patch in
place for about 30 seconds. Think about it as a last resort, and don't get
the instant glue on your hands.
