Your confusion is with Mustang - Capri clones from that time. Major fecal
conglomerations. Not Merkur's and not "real" Capri's...

Ford of Europe made Capri's in Cologne and shipped them here from something like
72-78.  Interesting cars, slower but lighter outfitted with a 4, more american with a
6, but a cheap fun car either way (I had 2 in previous lives).  In Europe there were
some super hotrod GT versions of these that are collector cars these days.

In the 80's they sent XR4ti's here (the 2 door 'double spoiler' sport job) also from
overseas, followed by the 4 door Scorpio.  Neither of which was too much of a hit with
the morons who would rather have a Mustang or Taurus than a 'damn furrin car', so
didn't last long...
