RE: Help! Electric problem... Voltage Stablizer??
... no, it is a small electronic device actually mounted to the instrument
cluster printed circuit board. While it might not be that difficult to
replace, based on your report that the tach and voltmeter are not working
(in addition to the turn signals as you mention) I would suspect that
something other than the voltage regulator is failing. Usually the only
things the voltage regulator powers are the "heated wire" meters like the
water temp and fuel gauge. I'd hazard a guess that even your oil temp gauge
is wired separately from the volt reg. Take a close look at the wiring
diagram for the car, find all of the components that don't seem to work on
the diagram and follow their power sources to see if they share a common
fuse. Another odd thing that might cause your problem is that there are
some common ground points which connect to the body of the car using a brass
connector I've called an octopus. If all of these failing components don't
share a common power source perhaps they share a common ground, and that
ground is bad. I haven't had to fix ground problems on my '85 4kSQ, but
there were a few of them on the '83 ur-q ...

Subject: Help! Electric problem... Voltage Stablizer??
Hi! Anyone heard of a Voltage Stabilizer in the '85 4000S?
Situation: The following gauges are dead: tachometer, volt meter,
water
temp., oil temp.. Also, the directional signals are dead, but hazard
is
still good.
According to the Hangs (sp?) manual's circuit diagram, all of the
above
points to a thing call Volt Stab (I am assuming Voltage Stabilizer).
Is
this a relay? If so, where can I find it?? Is it an easy fix?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
