RE: A6 Warm Weather Package

I have a 98 A6 with the warm weather package. I ordered it without ever
having seen it based on the description and my strong distaste for hot
interiors. My thoughts:

Rear sunshade: works well. Well constructed and seems like it will hold up
to use.

Solar Roof: It powers the regular heater/AC fan at a very low level. You
can hear the fan if you listen closely and you can feel some air
circulation. I would prefer it to have a little more power and circulate
more air. You lose the moonroof with the solar sunroof. You cannot slide
back the interior panel independent of the sunroof the way you do in
non-warm weather packages.

Windows: The windows are supposedly double pane. I think they are two
sheets of glass with some type of low E film in between. They don't appear
thick enough for an air gap. The intriguing thing (also a pain) is that
they appear to shield the interior from radio waves. I noticed this two
ways. 1 ) The range on my radar detector went to hell. I can practically
throw the detector at the radar by the time it goes off. It still works
fine in my other car. 2) Handheld cellular phones don't work very well. It
appears to keep the radio waves in.

Summary: We haven't had any very hot days here in NC since I got the car,
but the warm weather package does seem to help. I really regret losing the
moonroof and the ability to use a radar detector. There is also the issue
of the money that you pay for the package. I think that next time I would
pass on the warm weather package. As stated by someone else, it has good AC
that can take care of the heat.
