Clutch questions
Hi,
I have a general automotive question for anyone who would be kind enough
to educate me.
How does a clutch work? Looking at some pictures I have, it apears that
when you actuate the clutch, the release bearing (same as throwout
bearing, right?) moves forward and pushes on the "finger" diaphragm
spring on the clutch cover. What I don't understand is how that
disconects the clutch. In order to disconect the clutch, the pressure
plate needs to stop squeezing the friction plate against the flywheel,
right?
Anyway, I am asking this because my 85 4kq has started to make a wierd
bearing-like noise thats pitch is directly related to engine RPM. It is
most noticable when I am using the clutch, but I can also here it when I
am not touching the clutch pedal. I figure it must be the release
bearing.
Anyway, TIA for any help,
Erik
