I understand your position, having ridden motorcycles for many years
with no accidents. I will point out that my tactic on the bike was to
always drive a little faster than the cars. This way, I was always in
control. In my opinion, if you allow the other motorists any control
over the situation, you will die.  If you drive in the slow lane with
the flow of traffic, you will be merged over by a car. How many
motorcyclists do you know that have been hit while standing still? (See,
they weren't going faster than the traffic) 
   The danger of riding a motorcycle seems obvious to most people. On
the other hand, the danger of riding in a car isn't. The danger of
flying in an aircraft is way overblown in peoples minds. The problem is
in peoples perception. They percieve an automobile to be a safe little
haven. They have no idea of the potential energy stored in their own
body while it is hurtling unnaturally down a freeway in a car at 60 mph.
If one should suddenly give up that energy...
