rust flakes in fuel tank

I have a very irritating problem.  I have revived an 84 5000 turbo which
had been sitting for 4 years.  There is now an abundance of rust flakes
in the fuel tank.  Is ther an easy solution?  Any BTDT?  I have drained
the tank and wiped it out twice and the problem persists.  The flakes
collect on the intake screens of the fuel pump well and plug it up.  The
the car runs really poor until it is turned off for a while and the
flakes fall off the screen.
