V8 Quattro brakes

I have a question I hope somebody can help me with. Re 1990 V8 Quattro with
the "UFO" front brakes. Rotors cost an unbelievable $625 each from the
dealer, can be had for $325+ each from independant parts shop. There was a
recall and many had been changed to the G60 caliper (Girling) and rotor. That
campaign in no longer open. My thought is to purchase a set of the Girling
calipers from a wrecking yard and new rotors and brake lines. Its a much
better system. Can these Girling calipers and rotors be bolted on the
existing front suspension or are new wheel bearing housing, etc. necessary
in order to make the change? Any information will be greatly appreciated.
BTW, Audi wants $129 for the steering damper. The damper from the Mercedes
126 series is interchangable and costs $26. It looks exactly the same but
extends about 3/4 inch less. This is not a factor because the rack does not
turn enough to bring this difference in size into play. There is a dust boot
on the guide bushing of the UFO caliper that is not available from Audi. I
asked customer relations what one should do if that boot needs replacement.
The answer? Buy a new caliper.

Another discovery. Brake pads for the V8 cost from $110 to $175. I found a
place in Canada where front pads can be had for $64 U.S. including shipping.
KVR Performance, 1-800-636-0854. They look just like the Jurig pads,
semimetallic. It is possible to have Carbon Kevlar surfaces put on worn out
backs if sent to Porterfield Enterprises. This provides better braking and
longer rotor life and costs about $120. I don't know much about them, only
that they can do it.
