FW: poor manners...

Maybe he wanted the car and couldn't afford your asking price? ;)

Man, even if I didn't love cars, I'd stay on the list for it's sociological
entertainment.
One fascinating aspect of an online communities is that it is difficult to
qualify the person(s) with whom you are interacting. At your cocktail
party, for example, you would meet someone new, and instantly their age,
sex, appearance, vocabulary, and a hundred other inputs would help you
calibrate the exchange you're having.
I think all this happens anyway, eventually, in the virtual cocktail party
of a listserve, but it takes a lot longer.
Having been on the main list for over 2 years, I can't imagine who would
have authored the posts you quote. Sure, there have been a few rogue
personalities from time to time, but they're a pretty small minority.
Using my cyber-cocktail party instincts, I'd say the person is mostly
blowing smoke. Sold a CQ 20vt, and no one (on the qlist, 20v list, or 20vt
list) ever heard about it? Possible, but not likely. Sold 5 '91 Coupes in
the last month (That's 1.5% of the all '91s in the US!) for <$5K and we
never heard about it?
I'd say you got rolled here, lured into an exchange with someone
masquerading (not very well) as a credible peer. The fact that the post was
private may mean that the person has some personal code of etiquette, but it
may also mean they've been flamed for bad manners before.
$14K may be out on one tail of the standard distribution around CQ prices,
but anyone who "knows" you, Rick, on the 20V list is likely to regard it as
a serious asking price.
Don't be discouraged away from joining the Qlist: You'll be a valuable
contributor.
