Extended warranty for 1997 A4 2.8Q - worth it?

Hi,
From previous good advice I received from folks on this list about
my front-end repair problems and new Bridgestone Pole-Position tires, I
had gained more leverage with the dealer's Service Manager. Still
fighting to gain respectable service, at least some info gave me choice
items to bring up and cast doubt on their "lack-of" analysis - thanks
especially to Sharon Levy and John Cunnigham. So, I'm back with a
slightly related question that I haven't seen discussed in recent
digests.

My warranty is almost up, yet I can't get the dealer to
acknowledge my front-end problems . . they begrudginly acknowledged my
rusted and misaligned brakes after my incessant ranting about the
incredibly loud rolling noise (yes, apparent rolling noise from the
what *seems* to be the front brakes). With still much noise that I
can't believe is due to the new Bridgestones, plus prolonged vibration,
jumpiness and directional instability when driving over bumps, I'm
worried that things won't be fixed - or even ackowledged as problems -
before my Audi warranty expires in 1200 miles. With a 100 mile
round-trip commute, I only have one service date left before the auto
travels beyond 50K miles.

So, I wondered about an extended warranty: it would cost ~US$2100
through 100K miles for similar items as Audi's warranty sans
maintenance and common wear-and-tear parts. I don't feel like paying
for hours of mis-diagnosis and eventual front-end suspension, steering
or brake parts, but think that the cost of the warranty may never be
reached if it turns out nothing major is needed to fix my car. Of
course, there's always the lurking worry about a drivetrain problem or
so in the first 100K miles, but my cursory understanding is that the
1997-era quattro is not a big worry.

I'd appreciate advice or experiences shared from others on this topic -
my leaning is to not purchase the extended warranty, but I have little
information on which to base that decision.

Sincerely,

- Wade
