I'd use either regular or premuim.  Not mid-grade, not mixtures.
Why?  There tend to be two ignition maps.  One for regular, one
for premium.  If you use a mid-grade, you will eventually drop
onto the regular ignition map.  This will give you sub-optimal timing
under normal conditions - the fuel could support more advance
and slightly better gas mileage than the ignition map allows.
Depending on how conservative the regular map is, you may not even
get any advantage under high boost... the regular maps tend to be
very conservative!

BTW, the knock sensor in the 5 cyl engines isn't a tuning device -
it's a 'save the engine' from detonating itself to death device.
The retard steps aren't subtle - around 3 degrees each time it
detects knock.
