A4 oil levels

A4 owners,

Well new A6s too. See your owners manual. Note they say check the oil
with the engine warm.

Warm. Not first thing in the morning.

They want the level of oil in the sump to be at the top of the hash marks
when the engine is warm, has oil in the lifters, up in the head(s) etc.

A first thing in the morning check often shows a car overfilled. As you
found running and checking shows it right.

Also the new 1.8s and 30V 2.8s are happier with a hair less oil than to be
overfilled. They really don't like being overfilled. This has led to some
of the reports of the valves in new 30V 2.8s having carbon build up and
sometimes showing low compression at cranking speeds.
