A4 Oil Type?

I know that many of you have strong convictions, so I may regret asking
this...

What kind of oil should be used in a 1.8T?

The owner's manual talks about a good quality 5W30 or 10W30.  I am curious
to know your personal experience and what you may recommend.  I am also
curious to know what kind of oil Audi puts in these cars at the factory.
With the turbo I am uncomfortable driving without a litre of oil in the
trunk (just in case), but I am unsure what kind of oil I should be carrying.

The owner's manual also says that you can use regular oil or synthetics.  I
always believed that it was unwise to mix regular and synthetic oils in the
same crankcase.  Any comments?
