I'm racking my brain trying to figure out what could be wrong with your
door handle(s). For instance I'm running a driver's door handle that
has about 70k on it now, a pin broke two winters ago but I fixed it. No
"two handed" technique ever necessary.
The only thing I can think of is the plastic trims that go under each
end of the handle - you do have them in there don't you? Otherwise,
perhaps your striker pin needs to be adjusted or your door(s) are
hanging a bit low?
