I just removed the pilot bearing from a MC engine last week. I rented a
pilot bearing
removel tool from al's auto. It has two L shaped hooks on the end of a
slide hammer
which are facing out. You insert the two hooks into the pilot bearing
all the way to
the back and turn the slide hammer handle. This engages the cam on the
other end of the L shaped hooks which forces them outward against the
inside wall of the crank. You make sure these little hooks are on the
backside of the pilot bearing. The more you
turn the slide hammer handle the more pressure is exerted to push the
hooks outward.
When ready you slide the heavy weight back with force and this pulls
the pilot bearing
out. THis tool works slicker than snot.
