----> A/C blues dude! <----

After 178k miles my '89 200 "S6'er" Avant's A/C system needs the
following repairs;

-New A/C compressor (leaks oil and R-12)
-O rings
-Shrader Valve
-Receiver/Drier
-1000 grams of R-12

Plus all that da*m labor to put it together. I usally get a discount on
dealer parts at my local Audiship and have considered just repairing the
OEM system back to R-12 specs. I've heard that the R-134 kit works, but
is not as efficient as the R-12 (what the system was DESIGNED for).
Should I convert to R-134 at this stage? And, are there special R-134
compressors or will a R-12 OEM work fine for the conversion? Everything
else in the system works fine (you guys hear me knockin' on wood
now...?) and want to have collective input as to any BTDT's and what
direction I should go. Rebuilt compressors? Call Linda at Carlson for
"true" dealer discount costs... or what???

Please advise guys, as my wife has taken over driving the Avant and
needs A/C !!! As one of the original "digesters" (since 1994), I would
hope some of you guy respond to me directly with some encouraging news.
Other news, I am now driving a Porsche (again) that sports an Audi 016K
gearbox...!

ps my beautiful 1990 90 20v'er is for up for sale... $7500. Help me
sponsor my sick Porsche addiction... See her at:
