I may have posted the results too early. My wife informed me that the car was 
great all the way to work, but grumbled again in the parking garage. I may 
have indeed solved one of TWO problems, for the water pump was definitely on 
its way out. The method I use to track noises is a screwdriver (blunt end 
obviously) to the ear, and other end firmly planted on suspect. You would be 
amazed what you can pick up this way.
How do I check the Archives for the steering rack thread?
