Need more 80q synchro/differring trans info...
Ok, we're really getting a run-around from our local Audi dealer. If anyone
out there can offer specific info to clarify this situation, it would be
most appreciated! Actual part-numbers would be incredibly helpful:
My brother and I are replacing the synchros in an '88 80q. According to
Audi, there are two different trans, depending on the year of your car. Our
has been determined to be the early kind.
We've been told that the difference is that Audi changed some of the
components related to synchros in the later models, and that the earlier
style synchros are no longer made. Supposedly this means that if you change
synchros in an old-style trans, you have to change other components to match
the new synchros. We can't get a straight story on exactly what has been
changed.
Our Audi dealer told us that we have to get *one* new synchro hub and *one*
new synchro sleeve, at about $150 a piece. He told us that we need 4 synchro
rings of one type, and 2 of another. He also told us that the synchros are
$45/ea for the 4, and $40/ea for the other 2. Do these prices sound right?
Is this correct? Can anyone tell me exact part numbers for which hub,
sleeve, spring and synchro rings go with which gears? Do we really only have
to change 1 hub/sleeve? If so, which one - 1st/2nd, 3rd/4th, or 5th/rev?
Please help!
