I suspect that it might be a way around some of the draconian 'green'
regulations that were introduced a couple of years ago. Lots of new rules
and regulations covering storage and disposal of oil, petrol and
requirements that all scrap yards should be on concrete hard standings - the
traditional piles of cars in a field became a no-no overnight. At least two
scrap yards in my area crushed their cars and closed down rather than go to
the expense of rebuilding the yard to meet the new regs.

Doesn't surprise me that it hasn't been heard of in Germany - here in the UK
we might bitch and moan about EC regs but we're about the only country to
enforce them to the letter.....
