Re: Wastegate removal
Thanks, Javad. I did get the WG out, by going in from underneath the
car. From there, I could get a long extension up to the WG pipe -
exhaust pipe nuts and bolts, and that was that. I just left the WG pipe
- WG nuts alone after that. One's a little rounded but I didn't manage
to loosen any, so it will probably just stay that way for the rest of
the car's life.
Once removed, it was easy to see the tear in the diaphragm--it was 3/4"
long! It was on the side facing the firewall, making it hard to see when
installed. I've heard that diaphragms usually have very small tears;
here is a case of a major tear. No wonder it wouldn't hold pressure at
all.
Now I've just got to get the thing apart to put the new diaphragm in. I
think I'll go Phil's route and grind a socket down to fit the "coin
slot" on the exhaust side. What an odd little slot. The sacrificial
socket will be the dutiful cross-link socket, already ground to fit the
X caps on the hydraulic pump. I don't plan on replacing those seals
again.
Any other tips on the coin slot?
