When the fan is running after you shut the car off, just touch the electric pump
( watch the fan blade ) to feel for vibration. They are not audible above the
noise of the fan. I have 2 Audi's. One is an '88 with the original pump still
working and the other an '86 that I just replaced. That is a pretty long lifespan
although I agree the design is poor. I suppose it depends on your climate. Here
is Minnesota those pumps hardly run between September and May.
