Easy answer(s)
Dead nuts reliability, inexpensive parts and qualified wrenches on every 
corner, water pump $25, alt $50, 4 piston SS calipers $60, vented 12" rotors 
for same $50.  lots of HP increases for short (intake, carb) $'s.  All 
standard equipment for my 30 year old Corvette.  Hell, you gotta drive 
something while the Audi is down!
