Low boost/high compression I-5: Possible?
Greetings Audinauts,
One of the ideas which has rattled around in my cranium ever
since the intro of the LPT Saab 4-cylinder: Why couldn't a
creative Audi nut build a hybrid blend of parts to create
something similar for a stronger daily driver I-5?
The Saab doesn't even have a boost gauge. It has piles of
low-end torque: This is what you get when you couple near-
NA compression ratio with about 4-5 psi of boost. Bear with
me- I might be entirely barking up a wrong tree here,
thinking up a combo which can't work, but:
Use the high-compression 2226 like in a CGT or 4kq. Add
manifolds/hardware from MC, along with a K24 for quick
spool-up. Use very weak wastegate to keep boost low.
If pre-ignition could be kept down, I think you'd finally
have the torquer we all lament not getting. This would not
bet the hot ticket for track days, but I think it would be
great fun for street scootin', especially in a 4kq or the
like.
Those of you who have played around with parts
interchangeability more than I have: Is this totally out of
the question? Input, please!
Regards,
Rob
