Not in my experience. Both times the PPG replacement windshields for my
type-44 came with this thingy already glued on by the factory.

Yes, that's the glue that I used without much success. Prepped the glass
very well too (a razor blade first to scrape off any residue, then
methanol).
OTOH I've had panoramic mirrors with built-in luminescent clocks in all
my cars since '84. Those mirrors must weigh 100-150g and given the
length of the OEM mirror arm to be about 10 cm provided quite a leverage
which one hot summer day was enough to break off the metal heel that I
glued onto the glass.
