200q heater valves

alot of talk of heater valves lately.  my 1990 200q heater valve
also has a electrical connection on it.  anyone know what it
does.  

my valve remains in the full open position no matter
whether heating or a/c is selected or what the outside temp
is.

was looking at an 1989 200q the other day and previous
owner had replaced heater valve with a generic valve and
left electrical connector hanging loose in engine compartment.
