Fuel System Electrical Diagnosis?

I made an connector for my multimeter, it worked finally. At one point
it was working beautifully for mA current readings, then it stopped. I
checked all my splices for the connector and they're fine. I had it hooked
to the diff. pressure regulator and was getting some readings, but now all I
can get is resistance and voltage. These are the readings I got for the
dpr:

Differential Pressure Regulator
    Resistance at 20k - (1.11) w/ throttle closed
    Resistance at 20k - (1.78) w/ throttle fully open
    Voltage - (4.97)

Seem right? I am still in the learning process of how to understand
what all these numbers mean. The way I got the numbers above was using a
magical wiring harness I made. It basically works by this principal:
The wiring harness coming to the diff pressure regulator is hooked into
the positive test lead. The negative test lead is hooked to the diff
pressure regulator. To create a circuit the two open wires on the wiring
harnesses are connected. Basically this makes a bridge with the multimeter
in the line of the positive lead to the diff pressure regulator and a
straight through return/ground line.
Using my brain this seems right for creating a circuit, but all of a
sudden it no longer gets mA current readings. Just blinks the negative sign
with 0.00. Any suggestions?
    I need a tutor!
