They are supposed to click, that's the solenoid to alter the motor
action from up/down to left/right (or vice versa).  If you are not
getting any motion two things to check, 1. the switch is probably quite
dirty by now and 2. you may have some wire damage in the door boots.

I'd pull the switch and clean the heck out of it and cross your fingers.
