I, too, saw a picture+blurb with the above description in some US magazine
recently - the picture shows a white race-equipped Jetta (roll-cage
and, IIRC, massive wheels) on a track with a helmeted driver. Not
your typical dev. prototype.
Did what you read have this picture, too?
(I do seem to remember having seen this same picture in a German
magazine recently, describing the car as a works racer being developed
by VW, but I can't remember for certain.)
