I was waiting til I was crawling around under there to answer.  My
shafts don't slide in and out of the inner joints (the outers, otoh are
able to slide on splines, to accomodate axle length change due to
suspension movement).

Don't know what might be wrong but I'd be nervous at least.  Check to
make sure the 12 point bolts holding the inner CV's to the tranny are
tight.  Probably will take a real mechanic to figure out what is wrong,
if it has to be repaired, etc.
