Auto Union and the nazis, RE: Monterey on Speedvision
Rocky,
You are mentioning a very "sore" spot in Audi, Auto Union past, most Germans
and most list members don't consider this "gem" a part of history (I guess
if you will ignore it, may be it will go away!), we (on the list) had had
countless "very heated" discussions on the subject..........
Audi and every other German industry participated in Hitler's party, the
majority very willingly........how would you like to have slave labor verses
union workers? Every German from Spear on to Dr. Porsche was involved in the
nazi regime despite attempts to cover it up.
Note, European car recent spread about Audi, pages and pages of the 'glory"
stories, 4 paragraphs about the German madness with Hitler.
I hear that the German industry is now negotiating compensation for all
their nazi "shenanigans" let's hope they pay dearly!

actually, having attended monterey, and having a great
time by the way, i was left with one question. not
just the sentiment of what did audi do after ww2,
but what did they do *during* ww2? what was auto
union's role in it all? it was weird to see the
glorious 1937 footage, knowing (with th ebenefit of
hindsight) what else was going on...
that question i thought of a few times this weekend.
theother thing... where the FUCK was michelle,
at least a mention of her car and their early 80's
rally triumph. they brought every *other* car,
the timelines in the displays in their big tent
started just after the rally days... well. it was
an annoyance on top of a pretty rad weekend.
i'm off to burning man now, i'll read through the
digests when i get back.
