It was only demo runs, they weren't actually racing against each other.

Ti is correct, only demo runs. Had it been a real race though...a contest
between the IMSA GTO car and the R8R would be interesting. One would have to
assume that the aerodynamic downforce of the R8R would give it the edge, but
the IMSA GTO car definately has the more powerful engine.
When the GTO car ran, IMSA's "real GTP" cars were in their heyday. The GT
cars of today, including the R8R, pale in comparison thanks to new rules.
Even back then though I recall a "lowly GTO car" winning against the big GTP
cars in an endurance event (Daytona or Sebring...). The most memorable run I
recall was when Hans Stuck took pole over Jean Alesi in a Ferrari F-40 in
October 1989 (just a couple days before the earthquake...)
I must say it was quite a rush though standing at the trackside wall as
Michele Alboreto plunged that R8R down through the corkscrew. I shot those
corkscrew shots with my zoom backed off almost to it's widest setting of 60mm
and was still filling the frame. Whatta weekend...can't we do it all over
again??? Please????
