The 86's had a full size spare.  Don't know about later ones.

To remove the fuel pump, go at it like this:

remove floor carpeting from rear trunk.

clear up in the front of the trunk, you will see an access plate.

After you remove the access plate, you will see the fuel lines and some
wires entering the tank through another 'removable access plate' - I say
removable lightly, because you've got to twist this plate to loosen it,
and without the right tool it's hard to turn - it's even harder to replace
afterward.

When you lift this last plate up, then float lever for the guage is 
attached.  You can now reach down into the tank and feel the fuel pump 
down on the bottom, just (as I recall) snapped into a plastic holder.

You can lift the whole mess out of the tank at this point.
