That's true and particularly applies to lidar detectability. I recall
reading an article where they decided to test the performance of anti-lidar
license plate covers (they were of "active" type, not only diffusing laser
light but also emitting infrared light of their own). They found that a
black Firebird with closed lights and no front license plate was almost
impossible to clock with lidar even with no jamming equipment installed (no
flat, reflective surfaces to bounce the laser beam), while an old Cadillac
with large chromed grille and quad headlights had to have _two_ jamming
license plates installed to significantly reduce the distance at which
lidar would lock on it.
