Jenny, I've been trying to stay out of this fray,
but now you've gone too far, insulting my
Bronco!!!
As some of you may know, I am also a member of a
very active Bronco mailing list in addition to
this one, and the sentiments expressed in
relation to these vehicles would generate Flames
like you've never seen before if I forwarded them
to this List!!
First of all, a late model Bronco (78 - 96) is
not an SUV to a Bronco-owner. It is a truck. It
has a realtively short wheelbase for a truck
(104.5"), and is a REAL 4WD vehicle, not some
kind of Soccer-mom mobile with wimpy car-like
components in it. Because of the short wheelbase
and wide track, these trucks are actually quite
nimble, and are excellent in the snow.
The recent ridiculous lawsuit about 78-79 Broncos
being unsafe was met with such derision on the
Broncos list, the thread went on for days,
including various rants by attorneys on the List
who were familiar with the case. Any vehicle can
be made to flip when being driven too fast by
drunks!! Also, 78-79 broncos were grossly
under-powered, not over-powered!
Now I'll grant you that extremely lifted trucks
of any marque, with huge tires, etc., are not
going to be winning any gymkanas, but I can tell
you that if you drive one of these beasts, you
will find out real fast what your limitations
are, and that of the truck.
There are many, many owners of full-size 4WD
vehicles, like Broncos, who wouldn't be found
dead in these giant asphalt queens that are
basically no more than luxury cars with big
tires.
My Bronco is used for towing, hauling stuff,
offroad trails and deep snow that the Audi can't
get through. Is it an SUV like an Explorer or
Expedition? NO *(%$&# WAY!!!
