headlights...halogen etc

any at the moment. Has anyone tried or got any unformation on the HELLA
vision plus sealed beam replacement units? They are shaped like a
rectangular sealed beam lamp but are actually lenses which allow you to
place a halogen bulb ie H4 inside it. Has anyone tried these, seen
these, know if they work with the four lamp system, or know how pricey
they are?"
I had the H4 (outer) headlights and the H1 (inner) headlights on my 1981
4000 4E. For the set I paid around $30 each, or $120 total. What I found
was that the stock recessing of the light (approx 1.5" as I recall),
tended to interfere with proper light cutoff and peripheral range. The
chromed finish of this recess also scattered some of the light,
noticable in fog or snow.
While better than standard halogens, these are problems one will not
have with the euro lights. So looks aren't everything.
