Re: Violent back-off!
Hey Dan!,
I was having similar problems with my 87 5KTQ, it ended up being a
combination of the motor mounts transmission mounts and the exhaust hanger
connection the the cat, (it is a metal bracket and seems to control engine
movement once the motor mounts go ths bracket breaks cause it is rusted,
picked one up at the dealer for about 20$$ if I remember correctly.) well
both mounts were in 2 pieces and on the the tranney mounts was trashed after
replacing everything the car felt very solid with almost no "violent
backoff"

your car has the CIS injection so no MAF sensor and I do not think the decel
valve would do it either (it cuts fuel off to the engine when coasting
probably to save fuel and keep you from shooting flames out the tail pipe=)
I guess it could be something else like lots of play in the differentials
but I would look at obvious stuff first,

PS the motor mount under the exhaust is a major PITA to change (I think you
were there when I was changing mine??)and the one that is probably bad, lots
of heat from the turbo tends to cook them.
