RE: S4 and Break-in
I don't have an S4 (yet!) but FWIW my break-in in my now 70,000km A4 1.8T
consisted of firm treatment under light load for the first 6-700kms. Then
harder driving up to 1500kms when I had a track session full on and have
driven it hard since then.
Never over 2500rpm till fully warmed. Oil/filter changed at 8000kms to Mobil
1 then every 8-10000kms since - manual said 15000kms but I felt better with
the more frequent changes even though others (Avi in particular I am sure!)
would say it is money down the drain.
Result: fabulously free motor revs to 7000 sweet as (6500 usually my limit).
Oil consumption is immeasurably low - no top-ups between changes needed.
Only problem is the clutch is a bit suss at present (hasn't had an easy life
:) ) and a cold start problem and light throttle roughness when cold which
the dealer is trying to sort. There are errors appearing in the ECU for
reasons unknown at present. Anyone have any ideas??
Worries about the "demo" S4 are fully justified - betcha it hasn't been
warmed properly before keen testers floor it - I wouldn't touch it unless
discounted to 2nd hand price.
