Excuse this post about a non-quattro (my other car IS a quattro):

Recently purchased 1987 80 1.8E (4000 to you US listers) for our remaining
teenager to learn to drive and use when licensed (safety primary reason for
selection).

It has 168000kms and is in very good order. It blows some blue smoke at idle
but very little at highway speeds or on trailing throttle. Consumption is
approx 500-800ml per 1000kms. The handbook says normal consumption can be up
to 1.5L per 1000kms (seems high to me).

Is this within "normal" limits??
