WTB: 5kcstq goodies (and news)

Well, I just got back from California with my new-to-me '88 5kcstq.
It's a 5 speed light metallic gray one with 163k miles. The motor is
alleged to have been rebuilt 30k ago, which is supported by the
very clean cylinder head and new looking head gasket.

I'm getting up to 1.3 bar on the computer. I don't know what it
should be get up to. Power is decent, but I want more of course. I
am not used to the shifter, perhaps it needs to be adjusted.

Cruise control doesn't work, and the a/c doesn't get cold. The PO
said his mechanic said the compressor clutch is seized. PO was
not what I would call a full-blown enthusiast, but knew of the virtues
of quattro, and to run the car to cool and lube the turbo after driving.
 He bought an Explorer.

It was nice to make the 400 mile trip back (indeed at all!) without
having to stop for gas. My Saturn would have me stopping twice
for gas. I actually cut about an hour, maybe less, from the trip.
Due to the long range of the car, and the turbo <g>.

I wasn't sure if I would be getting this car as a donor, or as a driver.
It's nice enough for me to keep it as a driver, I think I've decided. It
just needs a couple things.

The brake warning light comes on, along with a beep, when I press
and hold the brake pedal down at idle. The pedal pulses, like the
hydraulic pump's belt is slipping or something. Brakes are hard
and unassisted with the motor off. This is IIRC.

The owner gave me a bottle of VW/Audi brand pentosin with the
car. The car leaks nothing.

My near future plans are to get the a/c cold, tint the windows, and
condition the leather. I had the tires balances before I came back,
and that took care of a shimmy it had at cruising speed. I think it
could use an alignment, so I'm looking into putting some springs
on it first. Gotta justify the $250-300, so's not to waste the $50+
on the alignment.

All this time, I've largely ignored the Type 44 stuff. Now I'm
wondering about everything. I already have an early, single book
edition Bentley for the car, in anticipation of the turbo conversion for
the 4ksq, so that oughtta help.

If anyone has any info to send me, please feel free. I'm most
urgently concerned with how to diagnose a seized a/c compressor
clutch (will the one from my '85 4ksq work?), how much boost I
should be getting, ideas on the brake pulsing/warning lights, and
what are the recommended sporty springs (I like low cars, within
reason). Any and all info is very much appreciated.

Later,

Ken

p.s. The cruise didn't work either, but I figger that's a vacuum thing.

p.p.s. I didn't know the relocated trunk lock preceded the newer
style door handles. Thought it was all during the same change.
Learn something new every day.

p.p.p.s. Can anyone give me info on the qlcc or whatever it's
called?
